Performance of Metal Oxide Arresters in HVDC Stations
Digital simulation changed the approach to insulation coordination of ac and dc substations. Now all the surge arresters in a substation could be simultaneously modeled. Garth participated in an extensive study to see if indeed the guidelines CIGRE had published on insulation coordination of dc substations could hold up when accurate simulation was applied. The results were presented in a report sponsored by the Canadian Electricity Association. A summary of this report was published as:
